TUI Academy Kenya
The TUI Academy offers vocational training for disadvantaged young people to access high-quality education, work experience,
life skills coaching, and a brighter future. The program offers vocational education and sustainable career opportunities to
young people from vulnerable communities. With a combination of theoretical education and life skills coaching, the program
focuses on the potential of tourism as an established driver of global job creation and growth.
Together, TUI Care Foundation in partnership with Severin Craftsman Training Centre (SCTC), launched the TUI Academy Kenya.
The Center is licensed by TVET (Technical and Vocational Education Training,) and offers three years of vocational training
for electricians, plumbers, carpenters, masons, and metal workers. All trainees are recruited from the neighboring villages,
with a particular focus on women, and finished their secondary school but cannot afford to continue with higher education.
The Training Center applies the German concept of the Duales system whereby theory and practice go hand in hand.

The Academy run for three years until 31 December 2025 and trains 90 craftsmen (aged between 19-26), 30 students each year,
to become electricians, plumbers, carpenters, masons and metal workers. The students go through the National Industrial T
raining Authority (NITA) examinations Grade III, Grade II and Grade I, which is the highest grade, with the respective Kenyan
certificates as well as the AHK Class-C certificate issued by the German foreign trade chamber. The program will expand the trainees’
experience further. The students have the chance to enjoy an apprenticeship program that gives them much exposure and work experience
within the hotel industry. Students will be placed in the hotel maintenance departments to gain more work experience.
The training prepares the students for the job market and the skills gained can be utilized in self-employment
which in turn solves the problem of youth unemployment within the Kenyan coastal communities. This boosts the economy in the
region and improves the livelihoods of the communities.
